Hi! If you have been following along or are new here, you may notice a huge time gap from the first post to this one. I've decided to start over my home decluttering with a new approach! Initially, I was attempting to follow a very popular, specific system of decluttering that I thought was going to be exactly what I needed. Instead, it left me feeling even more disorganized, frustrated that it wasn't going perfectly, and discouraged that areas of my home that needed the most attention really weren't getting any attention at all. So I took some time to regroup, edited my first post, got rid of the rest and here we are! Hooray for new beginnings!
I took a hard look at our home and what frustrates me. Right now, I'm sitting in our living room. Throw pillows are disheveled. Blankets are crumpled. Kids toys are on the coffee table. An empty mug is on the end table. While this isn't perfect or ideal, it doesn't bother me. I can get this room back in order in 5 minutes. What does bother me are the areas of our home where I can't quickly put the room or area back together because there is either no where to put anything or there is just too much stuff.
I have 7 problem areas in this house that I'm going to focus this blog around. Some are bigger problem areas than others. Other problem areas may pop up as the weeks, months, and years go by. We are a family of 4 living together and sharing a space after all!! But for now, here's what is getting my immediate attention:
1. The Kitchen
2. A small closet on the entry level of our home that functions as a pantry and game storage.
3. Upstairs Bathroom
4. Powder Room Vanity
5. My bedroom
6. BASEMENT
7. GARAGE
The basement and garage are in caps for a reason. They are the areas of our home that give me the most anxiety. Those two areas have a lot of work to be done and need to function in many different way. The thought of tackling those spaces is very overwhelming, but I'm visualizing how our family wants to use those spaces and I think keeping that vision in mind is going to be a huge help in getting not just the really hard spaces tackled, but every space....no matter what the size!
As I mentioned in my first post, I am not an organizer. I am not a professional. But I am on a mission to get our home decluttered, organized, and to get the most out of the time I have to get it done efficiently. In other words....having a plan of attack! I have evaluated the areas of our home that bother me the most. So now I will be further evaluating how I want those spaces to function and what I need to do to get them to work that way. This makes much more sense to me than trying to follow a very structured whole house decluttering process to a T that really doesn't initially address my problem areas. Why burn out decluttering closets if closets aren't a source of frustration to begin with? (And that doesn't mean my closets are decluttered and organized...they just aren't high on that problem list right now)
HERE WE GO!!! First up is the kitchen! Wish me luck and stay tuned!
